Growth-Based Therapy for Lasting Change.

WHAT TO EXPECT

Psychotherapy is a Collaborative Process

Psychotherapy is a collaborative process where you work with a trained therapist to explore your emotions, thoughts, behaviours and patterns that may be affecting your well being.

In the initial session:

  • The therapist typically will ask certain questions about you and your life.

This information helps make an initial assessment of your situation.

  • The therapist will focus on understanding your presenting concerns.

For example, because family situations play an important role in who you are, your family history and your current family situation may be explored.

  • The client is encouraged to ask questions about the therapy process and the treatment approach.

Symptoms of emotion and psychological distress are assessed and provide information to better understand your concerns.

Therapy can help

If you are feeling overwhelmed, stuck, anxious, depressed, grieving or struggling in a relationship, therapy can help. It is also valuable for personal growth and self understanding even when you are not in crises.

Clinical Approaches Offered:

  • Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT).
  •  Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT).
  •  Emotion-Focused Therapy.
  •  Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR).

An important factor to consider when deciding on a therapist is how the professional relates to the client(s). Every individual’s personality is unique and how they manage situations and challenges that come up in therapy. Therapeutic alliance is the foundation of counselling and is a significant factor to consider. Whatever the reason for seeking help, you will be more at ease and get better results knowing what to expect.
