When would I want to talk to a therapist?

People usually reach out when the pain of what they are trying to cope with becomes too overwhelming and sometimes unmanageable.

 

What happens in a therapy session?

 

You will meet with your therapist in person or virtual platform based on your preference. Session usually start with an individual telling the therapist about what has been happenning for them leading to emotional distress. Sometimes the therapist will have a plan of what to talk about; other times the client drives the client the conversation. The client also outlines the goal for therapy during the initial phase. A treatment plan is established based on client’s goals.

 

How long will I be in therapy?

While therapist are trained in various types of theraputic modalities every client is different, with different needs for the amount ot time they will be seeing their therapist.

 

Is my information confidential?

“Whatever you say in therapy stays in therapy”. There are times when the therapist is legally obligated to break confidentialty details of which will be shared during the first session.

 

Is Psychotherapy covered by my insurance/benefit plan?

Oakridges Therapy team counsellors hold masters degree (or equivalent) and belong to the college of Registered Psychotherapist of Ontario (CRPO) or Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers (OCSWSSW). Please call your insurance provider to confirm coverage under one of the regulatory colleges.
